STYLES AND CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
The class descriptions can help you better understand styles of classes and assist you in making the right decisions for your child! All students are different and learn at a different pace . Ages 3-5 years on trial basis. Forty-five minutes of stretching, musical games, motor coordination, and creative movement to develop interest and skills for further training in all subjects.
This form serves as an excellent foundation for all type of body movement. Emphasis on clarity, precision and correct body mechanics. It develops a "classical look" and appreciation of the art form. Our Ballet program does require (Or highly recommend) that the number of ballet classes being taken matches the level of skill the student is currently studying at.
BALLET EN POINTE
Must have permission from the instructor. All pointe students must be currently taking three Ballet classes and must have passed a "pointe test" given by the school.
Based on the Nicholas Technique which is a series of exercises done on the floor with breathing to improve stretch, strength, body placement, muscle control, stamina, voice projection, muscle tone, etc. Very useful for chronic injuries, postural problems, scoliosis and various physical weaknesses. This class is highly recommended for all students dancers and non dancers. This class is a requirement for our pre professional dance company and our performance team!
Experiments with the many possibilities of "natural movement." Emphasis on center strength, enabling the dancer to move more freely. This adds to an exciting emotional element to a dancer's capabilities so that movements are not rigid and uninspiring to watch.
Draws on Modern dance techniques as well as alternative philosophies of movement that depart from classical dance techniques. The choreographic process is examined and the performance process is stressed. Emphasis on the dancer as an individual artist and storyteller.
A familiar form frequently seen on television, stage and film. Popular music used with emphasis on overall conditioning, stamina, technique, performance.
A cross style of Jazz mixing isolating Hip Hop like movements with Contemporary and Jazz Technique. The opposite of classical and traditional technique this tends to be quirky, unique and original.
A street style based class using Hip Hop, Pop, Reggae, Electronic and Funk. This class will explore the vocabulary of many different techniques such as Popping, Locking, Waacking, B boy skills and much more... Steps will be broken down and explained, attempting to teach many moves seen in TV or video work and what is required at an audition today. This style helps build confident determination and personal individuality.
A fun and uplifting form of dance that exhilarates the mind and body by creating exciting rhythmic patterns with the feet. All styles of tap are represented, from Broadways-style show tap to funk/rhythm tap, in order to explore different rhythms in a variety of music or time signatures. Very useful for those interested in musical theater and is a great addition to ones dance repertoire.
ACRO or TUMBLING
Developing strength, balance, flexibility and agility skills while learning basic to advance gymnastic moves. Some include roll, back bends, handstands and headstands. Acrobatics is when they start to use more advanced skills like aerials, handsprings and tucks to name a few. Class structured for cheerleaders, stunt people and dancers who want that extra edge for auditions and stage performance skills.
A fun class consisting of styles not ordinarily taught in other classes, such as Western, 20's, 50"s, soft shoe, etc. Will study various shows' script, character, styles of time period. Also incorporates proper vocal training, acting, singing and pantomime. Emphasis is strongly on performance and audition skills for the stage and screen.
Is a fun class exploring the different genres of Latin dance including Salsa, Bachata, Cha Cha, and more. Latin Fusion challenges you to dance with S.P.I.C.E.-Style, Presence, Individuality, Confidence and Energy.
This class builds the individual skills of each pupil in terms of acting and performance. The sessions cover work in mime, improvisation, script and voice work. Students learn to respond in imaginative ways in solo, pair or group scenes; they develop their physical and verbal skills in stories and plays that are created by a variety of stimuli. This class endeavors to develop confidence and social awareness while nurturing creativity with control.
Follows the same guidelines as Latin Fusion but with more of an influence on jazz technique. This class incorporates Jazz as well and is suggested that all students study Jazz or Ballet to help with the vocabulary and movement required in this class.
LEAPS AND TURNS
This class is designed Jazz and Ballet students that extra focus on progressions with leaps and turns. Must study technical dance first to take these classes. Bodies require proper conditioning so that injuries don't occur especially when jumping!
We highly recommended that a class be taken prior to this class as there is no formal warmup for leaps and turns!
